The Savage has a park position for the ignition. If she is turning the key to park instead of off, the battery will go dead. Is she leaving the choke on too long and fouling the plug? I did that when I first had the bike. It will backfire like crazy right before you have to shift to reserve.
Acutally my Savage needs very little maintenance once I got to know the bike. Have patience. It's a great bike. My SO was able to work on the bike for me until I got the little quirks down pat.
